Nestbox Building Workshop

Saturday - April 16, 2016 @ 1pm-4pm

Mt. Pleasant Neighbourhood House

The Urban Nestwork invites community members to build a birdhouse out of upcycled wood to increase the availability of habitat for native birds whose populations are in decline.

We will educate participants about the native bird species they have built the nest box for, how to create a bird friendly environment at home, and instruct participants on building and installing the birdhouse as well as directions to more resources. The event is FREE of charge.

The Urban Nestwork Bird Experience
Sunday - April 17, 2016 @ 2pm-4pm
Jericho Beach

Come and join the Urban Nestwork for an afternoon of experiential bird-watching activities, in and around Jericho Beach! This is not your traditional birding tour, but rather a chance to develop greater awareness of our wildlife neighbours while having fun and being creative.

Following the activity there will be a group dialogue, during which participants can share and reflect on their experience. We will work on our bird ID skills (how to ID both through appearance and sound) and share knowledge about how to make our everyday lives more bird-aware and friendly.

Why this format? We are curious about the “rewilding of the self”, and how we can hone our ability to engage meaningfully, respectfully and reciprocally with the species and spaces around us.

Co-facilitated by Lanie Fung, Anna Kraulis, Nathan Ross and Azlan Nur-Saidy of the Urban Nestwork.

Be sure to bring appropriate footwear, water and raingear (if applicable). All are welcome, but please note that this event will require a moderate degree of physical activity and travel through uneven terrain.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet us @ Jericho Beach Concession stand at 2pm

This event is FREE, but please RSVP via eventbrite to let us know you're coming!
